Justice GOLDBERG, for the Court.

This case came before the Supreme Court on May 10, 2011, on appeal by the defendant, Viroth Phannavong (defendant or Phannavong), from a judgment of conviction in the Providence County Superior Court. The defendant was convicted of three counts of child molestation—one first degree and two second degree—against his former girlfriend's daughter, Jane (complainant or Jane).1
