In satisfaction of a six-count indictment, defendant, with the aid of a sworn Spanish interpreter, pleaded guilty to one count of assault in the first degree for stabbing another inmate. Pursuant to the plea agreement, defendant was thereafter sentenced as a second violent felony offender to a prison term of 12 years followed by five years of postrelease supervision, with that sentence to be served consecutively to the term he was then serving.
