In the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, Darryl Gholston, Jr. ("Darryl"), the appellee and a minor, brought suit through Nicole Player, his mother, for medical malpractice against the University of Maryland Medical System Corporation ("UMMS"), the appellant. The case was tried to a jury for six days. A verdict was returned in favor of Darryl and judgment was entered for $3.605 million dollars.1 UMMS moved for judgment...
