On September 21, 1998, the defendant pleaded guilty in the District Court to multiple drug offenses stemming from charges set forth in two complaints. In 2005, the defendant moved to vacate his guilty pleas. Those motions, and motions for reconsideration, were denied by the same judge who had taken the pleas, and the defendant appealed.
