We transferred this case from the Appeals Court to decide whether a Superior Court judge properly ordered the intervener, the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS), to withhold the payment of funds to an expert witness for services provided in this case until a certain amount that the judge had ordered withheld from the same expert witness in an earlier, unrelated case had been satisfied.
