On November 25, 1986, following a jury trial, defendant was found guilty of one count of first degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Defendant was sentenced to consecutive terms of 40 and 20 years' imprisonment, respectively. In 1988, on direct appeal, this court affirmed defendant's convictions and sentence. People v.
