In December 2018, Phillip Doe filed suit against Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, Archbishop Wilton Gregory, and the Archdiocese of Atlanta (collectively, "the Church"), asserting various tort claims based in part on childhood sexual abuse Doe allegedly suffered while serving as an altar boy at Saint Joseph's in the late 1970s.
