On February 28, 2006, a fire destroyed LaGrande Thornton's home in Carroll County. On March 15, 2007, Thornton sued Georgia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company ("GFB") on his homeowner's policy, claiming that GFB's alleged express and implied promises to pay and delay in denying his claim unfairly prejudiced his ability to bring the action within one year after the date of loss.
