Prior to appellant Michael Blakeney's first-degree murder trial, his defense attorneys arranged for a psychologist to evaluate his competency. The psychologist opined that Blakeney was not competent to stand trial. However, Blakeney's attorneys discounted the significance of that opinion and, after consulting with their client, chose not to raise the issue of his competency with the court.
