Following a jury trial, the defendant, George Michael Leniart, was convicted of murder in violation of General Statutes § 53a-54a(a) and three counts of capital felony in violation of General Statutes (Rev. to 1995) § 53a-54b(5), (7), and (9), as amended by Public Acts 1995, No. 95-16, § 4.1
