JONES, Judge.

¶ 1 Thomas and Nancy Beatie (Thomas and Nancy, respectively) appeal the family court's dismissal of their request for entry of a decree of dissolution of their marriage.1 Thomas was born a female who underwent medical procedures toward changing his sex, and subsequently obtained an amended birth certificate from the State of Hawaii recognizing him as a male.
