In 1999, Garvin Brown, Jr. was convicted of aggravated assault, kidnapping with bodily injury, two counts of theft by taking, and possession of a knife during the commission of crimes. During sentencing, the trial court merged the aggravated assault conviction into the kidnapping conviction and sentenced Brown to life imprisonment. It then merged the theft by taking convictions and sentenced him to ten years, to run concurrently with the life sentence...
