Under AS 12.55.045(a), a sentencing court must order the defendant to make restitution to the victims of the crime (unless the victims decline restitution). AS 12.55.045(g) directs the court to assess the total amount of restitution without regard to the defendant's ability to pay — although, under AS 12.55.045(c), the court may give the defendant time to pay the restitution, and the court may also allow the defendant...
