Following a jury verdict in this kidnapping and murder prosecution, the trial judge entered a judgment of acquittal and granted the defendant's motion for a new trial. The Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit later overturned the judgment of acquittal, but upheld the trial court's decision to grant a new trial because certain prejudicial evidence that had been excluded in the course of the trial had found...
