In June, 2001, four middle school students were charged in the beating of a classmate. After an evidentiary hearing, a Juvenile Court judge suppressed statements made by the juveniles to the school's assistant principal under the theory that the assistant principal's "investigation ... was under the guise of a governmental agency, ... no Miranda rights [were] given, [and] there was no opportunity for parental involvement." The judge subsequently dismissed...
