This case comes before us on an appeal by Destie Ventre (Ventre or defendant), who was convicted of the crimes of murder in the second degree, and assault with a dangerous weapon, following a jury trial in the Superior Court. Ventre was acquitted of the charge of assault with intent to commit murder. In September of 2000, the trial justice sentenced Ventre to forty years imprisonment for the murder, and ten years...
