James Trask, who is African-American and over 40, worked for General Electric Co. ("GE") as an appliance repairman in Chicago, Illinois, from 1994 to March 19, 2001, when he was fired. In 1988 and 1991 he received outstanding performance awards from GE. He was a member of IBEW Local 134 (the "union").
