Defendant Graylin Gray, after waiving counsel and choosing to represent himself, was convicted of second degree forgery. Gray was found to be a habitual criminal under Neb.Rev.Stat. § 29-2221 (Reissue 1995) and was sentenced to 10 to 20 years' imprisonment as required by the mandatory sentencing provision of the habitual criminal statute.
