Throughout her pregnancy, Dr. Jennifer Etkind was a patient of Dr. Ramon Suarez. After giving birth to a child with Down's Syndrome, she and her husband filed suit against Dr. Suarez and his partnership, asserting a "wrongful birth" claim.
