On September 30, 1994, in a one-vehicle accident, Jeremy Todd Roy was severely injured while a guest passenger in an automobile operated by Ronnie Jones who carried minimum liability coverage. At the time, Jeremy's parents, Larry D. Roy and Debra Kay Roy were divorced and shared joint custody with the mother designated as the primary domiciliary parent.
