O'NEILL, Justice.

Lisa Lee was in active labor when a nurse at Parkway Hospital, Inc. ("Parkway") gave her an injection of Pitocin, a drug used to accelerate labor. Shortly thereafter Lisa's uterus ruptured and her son, Alexander, was born with severe neurological injuries. Immediately after the delivery, Lisa underwent an emergency hysterectomy.
