The evidence presented at trial tended to show that on 21 November 1993, defendant Jackie Craddock Smith did break and enter, during the nighttime, several residences and one storage building located in Pinetown, North Carolina. The residences were owned by Myrtle Peele, Edith Jackson, and Noah Leggett. Mr. Leggett also owned the storage building, located near his residence, that was broken into.
