OPINION

FELDMAN, Chief Justice.

On March 25, 1992, Defendant Jerry Perales Barreras pleaded no contest to one count of first-degree murder and one count of sexual assault. The superior court judge sentenced Defendant to death and a consecutive twenty-one year prison term. The clerk of court filed a notice of appeal on his behalf. See Ariz.R.Crim.P. 26.15, 31.2(b).
