This action arose out of a motor vehicle collision on September 1, 1991, between the appellants, Tommy and Emma Sue Gilbert, and a Walker County deputy sheriff who was responding to an emergency call to back up another officer. The collision occurred as the Gilberts proceeded through an intersection pursuant to a green light and the deputy ran the red light.
