Defendant, Derek Crosby, was convicted of three counts of first degree murder (Ill. Rev.Stat.1987, ch. 38, par. 9-1) and one count of attempt murder (Ill.Rev.Stat.1987, ch. 38, pars. 8-4, 9-1) in a jury trial. Following a death penalty hearing, the trial court determined that mitigating factors existed precluding the imposition of a death sentence and sentenced defendant to natural life imprisonment on the murder convictions...
