After a bench trial, defendant Joseph Gant was found guilty of murder, armed violence, home invasion, aggravated unlawful restraint, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Because the court found that the evidence of guilt was overwhelming, and that the offense was accompanied by extensive brutal or heinous behavior indicative of wanton cruelty, it sentenced defendant to the custody of the Illinois Department...
