Shortly before the civil war in Liberia that began in December, 1989, plaintiff, the wholly state-owned Liberian Mining Corporation ("LIMINCO"), retained as United States legal counsel defendants Nathaniel J. Bickford and Lankenau, Kovner and Bickford (collectively "Bickford").
