After a jury trial, the defendant, Lawrence R. Smith, was convicted of one count of kidnapping in the first degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-92 (a) (2) (A) and (B),1 one count of robbery in the third degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-136,2 one count of larceny in the second degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-123 (a) (3),3
