Slowinski was found guilty of premeditated murder (Minn.Stat. § 609.185(1) (1986)) and murder in the first degree while committing or attempting to commit first degree criminal sexual conduct (Minn.Stat. § 609.185(2) (1986)), in connection with the September 13, 1987 stabbing death of his neighbor Sherry Syverson.
