In this action plaintiffs claim that the defendants are using a racially discriminatory selection process for the promotion of police officers to the rank of sergeant in the Bridgeport Police Department. Plaintiffs allege that defendants' promotion procedures violate sections 1981 and 1983 of Title 42 of the United States Code and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. § 2000e-2(a).
