Gerald Gordon was charged, along with his friend, Chris Jackson, by indictment with the possession of a stolen motor vehicle. (Ill.Rev.Stat.1985, ch. 95½, par. 4-103.) Gordon was tried by a jury while Jackson selected a bench trial. The trials were heard simultaneously. The jury returned a verdict of guilty against Gordon, but the court found Jackson not guilty.
