The City of Forsyth, Georgia, in Monroe County, owns a sanitary landfill which is situated within Monroe County, but outside of the city limits of Forsyth. Until the end of 1989, the landfill was used to receive garbage generated from within the City of Forsyth and Monroe County, with the City and County governments sharing the costs of operation.
