WRIGHT, Judge:

By notice of deficiency dated May 11, 1987, respondent determined a deficiency in petitioners' Federal income tax for taxable year 1983 in the amount of $48,913, an addition to tax under section 6653(a)(1)1 in the amount of $3,618, and an addition to tax under section 6653(a)(2) in the amount of 50 percent of the interest due on $72,359.2
