MEMORANDUM OPINION

GLEN M. WILLIAMS, Senior District Judge.

The plaintiffs are all former employees of Westmoreland Coal Company, the defendant. They were employed at Westmoreland's Holton mine near Big Stone Gap, Virginia, until December of 1986, when they were discharged. They now bring suit for wrongful discharge and defamation of character; in addition, plaintiff Ruben Allman alleges intentional infliction of emotional distress.1
