Defendant was charged in a single indictment with assault in the first degree with a firearm, ORS 163.185, and being an exconvict in possession of a firearm. ORS 166.270. He pleaded no contest to being an exconvict in possession of a firearm, and the jury found him guilty of the other charge. The court declared him to be a dangerous offender pursuant to ORS 161.725 and sentenced him to 30 years imprisonment on the assault charge. It imposed...
