Carolyn Makovi sued her employer, The Sherwin-Williams Company, for wrongful discharge. In her complaint, filed in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, Ms. Makovi alleged that she was employed, on an "at will" basis, as a chemist in the employer's paint factory; that in August, 1983, she learned that she was pregnant; that on October 10, 1983, the employer told her that "she could not work at her job as long as she was pregnant" and that "her pay and...
