McKUSICK, Chief Justice.

Defendant David F. Whitten, Jr., appeals a judgment entered by the Superior Court (Cumberland County) in favor of plaintiff Paul J. Cloutier following Whitten's default for failing to appear for trial. That default judgment ordered defendant to comply with an August 1986 agreement the parties had reached for defendant to convey to plaintiff certain real estate in Cape Elizabeth. The judgment also ordered him to pay plaintiff $25,000 in damages...
