This appeal is the result of a retrial ordered by this court in State v. Vinal, 198 Conn. 644, 504 A.2d 1364 (1986) (hereinafter, Vinal I). We held there that the defendant, Daniel Vinal, Jr., who had been convicted of the crime of murder after a joint trial with a codefendant, James Avis, was entitled to a separate trial.
