Respondent Security State Bank of Howard Lake ("Security State" or "the Bank") sued appellant Palmer Koosman, Jerome Dieltz and The New Howard Lake Motors, Inc. ("NHLM") to recover losses resulting from the dishonor of a check deposited in NHLM's checking account. A jury found that Koosman had defrauded Security State and awarded it compensatory damages.
