STATON, Judge.

Bruick appeals the trial court's denial of his petition to adopt Lucas Peter Augustyniak, raising two issues for our review:

(1) Whether the natural father's consent to the adoption is required under I.C. 1941, 31-3-1-6(g)(1) (Burns Code Ed., 1980 Repl.).1 (2) Whether the adoption is in the child's best interest.
