On August 2, 1985, plaintiff, Stanly J. Stewart, filed suit in the circuit court of Macoupin County against defendants, Chicago Title Insurance Company (Chicago Title) and David A. Weaver, alleging that he had been libeled by the defendants. He sought compensatory and punitive damages.
