Defendant and appellant Robert E. Kelly and codefendant Maurice J. Keenan were jointly tried before a death-qualified jury in the Superior Court of the City and County of San Francisco. Each was jointly charged on six separate counts, namely, murder (Pen. Code, § 187), burglary (Pen. Code, § 459), two counts of attempted robbery (Pen. Code, §§ 664/211),
