On April 2, 1981, petitioner was convicted of murder and sentenced to life by the Jefferson Circuit Court following a jury trial. He appealed the conviction to the Kentucky Supreme Court, which affirmed it on May 11, 1983. See Murphy v. Commonwealth, 652 S.W.2d 69 (Ky.1983).
