Plaintiffs in this diversity action, Christopher and Joseph Laney, sued defendant The Coleman Company, Inc. (Coleman) on a theory of strict liability in tort, alleging that they were burned when a defectively designed Coleman fuel can exploded. Following a jury trial, judgment was entered in favor of plaintiffs for $1 million actual damages and $3 million punitive damages. Coleman appealed.
