John Douglas Merrifield was found guilty by a jury of first degree murder, I.C. §§ 18-4001, -4003, in the shooting death of a hotel manager. He also pled guilty to an additional offense, possession of a deadly weapon by an inmate of a jail, I.C. § 18-2511. Merrifield was sentenced to the custody of the state board of correction to serve a twenty-five year fixed term for the murder conviction...
