This action arises out of the 1980 death of Joseph C. Palmer. The plaintiffs, his widow (who also sues as his administratrix) and his mother, seek damages from the defendants, claiming that the two companies' failure to warn Mr. Palmer about the health risks associated with smoking the cigarettes they produce and distribute was the proximate cause of his death.
