On November 20, 1980, an elderly brother and sister were shot and killed at their farm in Danville, Vermont. Defendant, who on the date of the offense was seventeen and one-half years old, was subsequently convicted of second-degree murder of the sister, Marguerite Vance, and of felony murder of her brother, Levi Vance. 13 V.S.A. § 2301.
