U.P.C. filed a claim for damages against Intercontinental Bank alleging usurious rates on an $897,0001 loan. Upon Intercontinental's motion for judgment on the pleadings, the trial court entered final judgment for the Bank. The trial court found in part:

3. The usury law to be applied by a court is the law in effect at the time the court renders it [sic] decision unless the act itself provides otherwise. See
