OPINION

RABINOWITZ, Justice.

May and Jack Ryfeul were married in Tripoli, Lebanon, in 1973 and moved to Alaska that same year. In 1974, a child was born to them.1 Differences arose between the parties the following year, and Jack filed a complaint for divorce. The parties attempted a reconciliation in 1976, but at May's request, the divorce complaint was not dismissed. In 1977, May left with the child to visit her family in Lebanon...
