This case arises out of a collision which occurred in the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet on June 17, 1977 between the inbound vessel, the M/V SOUTHWIND and the outbound vessel, the M/V ASTROS. The Collision occurred when the M/V SOUTHWIND took a sharp sheer across the channel and collided with the M/V ASTROS, which was proceeding up the opposite side of the channel.
